As my first sanctioned competition, The Woodlands Solo Piping Contest was surprisingly easy and straightforward. The laidback atmosphere of the competitors and adjudicator made this an enjoyable event for me, and I look forward to more competitions in the near future. The people running the event were very helpful, and were willing to explain how everything was supposed to happen. I would especially encourage beginning pipers to come to these competitions to have professional analysis of your playing; it’s encouraging and practical, and at the same time loads of fun! Here is a "blast from the past": David was kind enough to write about his experiences at his first sanctioned solo competition. He has done well in his first year -- he was upgraded to Grade 3 some time ago. Good on ya, David!
